The presidential election is more than 20 months away, but plans are already in the works for a 2012 revival of Gore Vidal’s The Best Man. The political comedy, first performed on Broadway in 1960 and revived in 2000, will be directed by Michael Wilson (The Orphans’ Home Cycle; The Milk Train Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore). No theater, casting or dates have been announced.
Vidal’s play centers on power, ambition, political secrets and ruthless behavior surrounding a race for the presidency. The 2000 revival featured Chris Noth as title candidate and co-starred Elizabeth Ashley, Charles Durning, Christine Ebersole, Spalding Gray and Michael Learned.
The Best Man will be revived on Broadway by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, Eagle Productions and Infinity Stages.
